The Inner City Story
Inner City were formed in the summer of 1984 . Mods were back and the scene was as strong as ever . It was not long untill the band decided to go into the studio and lay down there first two tracks entitled , " Can you tell me why " and "Taking my time ". The cassette was simply entitled , "Inner City" .

There first cassette received good reviews . " Simply the best cassette , content wise , you'll hear from any new band in a long time " one fanzine wrote , another stating " How can the scene die with bands of this calibre around ? " . Most of them called it a cross between Squire , The Who , and a touch of T-Rex , which of course pleased the band no end .

The cassette sold well and Inner City started to get noticed and build a following in the mod scene appearing in most national fanzines on a regular basis like " The Incrowd "and " Empty Hours " . Their sound was growing . Gavin then the new replacement for Jo Matthias the original rythem guitarist brought a new dimenstion to the band writing the excellent " Where the Hammond " which was to appear on the bands second cassette " Inner City are GO ! . recorded at Whitehouse studios and CO-produced by the band in the summer of 1988. Three live tracks were recorded " Mr Mystery Man " , " The Good and Sad " and of course " Where's the Hammond " . The new cassette gained rave reviews from the fanzines and got them there first radio airplay and TV appearance .
Live, they still pulled in the crowds and they took there set further a field again with good reviews. After playing a number of bookings including the Bierkeller .
The band again went into Whitehouse studios to record there third and final recordings entitled" Set the Dance Tone Sucker "a title aimed at the frustration felt by the band at the time . " Prime Time ", "Runaway" , "The Evidence" and "Aunt Alice" were recorded and CO-produced by the band . Time was running out for Inner City. " Empty Hours fanzine" wrote " The quality here I so good you'll be a mug if you miss out".
But as one review also wrote , " Inner City know where there at . I hope they know where there going". This about summed it up. Inner City spilt in early 1990 wile they were on top .But you can be sure there all still MODS at heart ! ...
